Sridhar Heggodu needs your help

Sridhar N. Shanubhag, popularly known as Sridhar Heggodu, met with a freak road accident in April, 2006. He was treated at KMC, Manipal; life was saved but the spinal cord couldn’t be rejuvenated. Sridhar, once the nerve centre of NINASAM, Heggodu, is paralysed down the neck. The young man who showed every glimpses of an extra-ordinary future is lying immobile.

Sridhar has undergone all kinds of treatments that are currently available, suffering the worst kind of physical, mental and emotional trauma. Sridhar's family and well wishers have spent more than Rs. 4 lakhs. Now a new ray of hope, Stem Cell Therapy, has emerged for the damaged spinal cords. After one sitting, in October, Sridhar’s limbs are now showing some movements. As per Doctors’ advice he needs one more visit in March. Hopefully, by the end of the therapy Sridhar will be able to stand on his feet, make some hand gestures, turn his neck and most importantly, will be able to live without extreme dependence.

But the Stem Cell Therapy is highly expensive. At present it is available only in Chennai. It is a package treatment and one visit costs Rs. 2,00,000/-. Sridhar's family is exhausted of all possible financial means and has reached a financial dead end. They have got assurances from few people for financial help to the tune of Rs 50,000 to Rs 80,000. We have set a target of Rs 100,000 by March 10, 2008.

Update
Status as on March 07, 2008
Total amount needed : Rs 100,000/-
Amount collected : Rs 94,000 +
Amount assured, but not yet collected : Rs 6,000

Sridhar needs help. Will you? Please note that there are no 'minimum' limitations on contributions. You may have to let go just one weekend movie, a buffet or an ice-cream. Even your small contribution has the potential to bring a big positive difference in the life of an extremely talented Sridhar.

Please get in touch with us if you wish to contribute. Please send a request to - aasthe-subscribe@yahoogroups.com if you wish to be a part of our group.

Veena's Question :

This is nice to read. I guess its the same centre where recently the director Yogaraj bhat got some therapy done.. I have heard a lot about this centre, hope srikanth will get complete benefit of such treatment.
About the stem cell therapy, do they plan to use his own?

its really very difficult to find a match, its generally 1 in 20000. I remember organising a Stem cell registration camp at our workplace., and had learnt few things about this stem cell and the therapy.

My response :
Yes, I believe it is the same center (Dharmasthala trust owns it).

They will be using his own bone marrow. I confirmed this with him. I am also registered for it. We conducted a drive couple of years back, but unfortunately we were unable to find a match and the kid died last year.

I think you have set it that way so that the comment is sent to the aasthe without any issues..

Probably we can do it this way, lets allow everybody to comment, but those updated by the group members would come as an email (since they would be registered members so the email will not be bounced back)...

Veena,

1) I modified the setting to allow registered users, including OpenID (from other blog services like Live Journal) for commeting. Earlier I had to set it to only registered users with a gmail id. Please let me know if this is fine.

2) I can remove the above restriction and allow anyone to comment. But then it will allow anonymous comments too and I am bit uncomfortable with it.

3) The comments will come to aasthe group only if the registered user is a member of the group and has enabled the 'show mail' flag in blogger account setting. If the registered blogger has unchecked that flag, the senders addres will be something like 'no-reply-comment@blogger.com'. Hence comment will not pass through the group. Hope this answers your question.

Sridhar Heggodu's stem cell theray has been post-poned by 2 - 3 months as per the advice of Dr.Suresh Raju(Chemical stem cell therapy unit) .

Shridhar is currently undergoing Marma Chikithsa Therapy by Dr.Ajeyan(A traditional Neuro therapy of Ayurveda).Dr. Ajeyan is an expert doctor in Ayurveda. Once Sridhar's body responds to treatment and shows improvement, Stem cell therapy will be undertaken.
